SUBJECT: MY SUMMER HOLIDAYS –INTEGRATED SKILLS PRACTICE
I. Warm-up activity: What’s the truth?
- The teacher tells the class that they’re going to play the game «what’s the truth» and that it should be connected with their last summer holidays
- on the board the teacher lists 3 sentences about herself, one that is true and two that are false, for example :
1. In July I visited two European capital cities Prague and Vienna.
2. During my summer holidays I’ve started driver’s education.
3. I’ ve tried bungee jumping.
- The teacher tells the students that two of these sentences are false and only one is true (they can ask some questions to make their guessing easier)
- Students vote on the «true» statement, the teacher counts the votes and writes the number next to the statements
- Next the teacher reveals the statement that is true and then says a few sentences about this true experience or situation
- (students turn to play the game) On a sheet of paper they must write 1 true statement and 2 false ones about themselves (be creative!)
- after completion, the teacher breaks the students into pairs and they are to play «What’s the truth?»
- after revealing the true sentences, the students, too, must discuss the topic further
- the final part of this activity is for the pair teams to stand up and introduce each other, by name, to the rest of the group and tell one interesting fact about one another
II. A holiday with a difference – reading and speaking skills practice.
1. Use any text you can find connected with summer holidays
2. Dealing with new vocabulary (trying to guess the meaning from the context)
IV. Homework
Reading with laughter – Students are to read a short, funny story about thirsty tourist and try to guess the last line of the story. (you can find this funny story in «Lessons with laughter» by George Woolard)
